Microsoft tablet announced – introducing the Surface

A new Microsoft tablet has been announced for release this autumn in what appears to be the global software leader’s late entry into the tablet race.

Named the Microsoft Surface, forecasters are predicting big things for the mobile PC which will run on Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Although many believe that Microsoft are behind the times when it comes to this hugely lucrative market, Bill Gates actually launched a Microsoft tablet a decade ago, well before the iPad and the string of competitors’ products were even conceptualised.

Back in 2002, Microsoft’s tablet was released to a relatively unsuccessful response and poor sales and they seemingly bowed out… until now that is.

So what are the features of the Microsoft Surface that we know of so far?
– There will be two versions of the new Microsoft tablet: Surface for Windows RT and Surface for  Windows 8 Pro
– Microsoft Surface dimensions and weight: 9.3mm thickness, 676g
– Microsoft Surface Pro dimensions and weight: 13.55mm thickness, 903g
– Touch Cover – a magnetic cover with inbuilt keyboard
– Tablet will have inbuilt stand for viewing
– 32 GB, 64 GB for Surface and 64 GB, 128 GB for Surface Pro
– 1920 x 1080p Full HD 10.6” ClearType screen
