Google Nexus 7 tablet on the way next week?

According to the buzz on several tech websites in Internet land, there will be a new Google tablet announced next week at the Google developers conference.
Google Nexus 7

Rumoured to be the Google Nexus 7, this would come at a time where Android tablets may need to reinforce their presence in the market after Microsoft’s announcement of the Microsoft Surface tablet came this week.

Some are saying that the next Google Nexus tablet is expected to be released in the summer, meaning it will have the edge on the Surface and could be a new competitor for Kindle Fire too.

All eyes will certainly be on the Google I/O event on 27th June as we anticipate and await the Google Nexus 7 tablet.

You can find a range of Nexus 7 cases and accessories at Proporta while you wait.

Microsoft tablet announced – introducing the Surface

A new Microsoft tablet has been announced for release this autumn in what appears to be the global software leader’s late entry into the tablet race.

Named the Microsoft Surface, forecasters are predicting big things for the mobile PC which will run on Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Microsoft Surface

Although many believe that Microsoft are behind the times when it comes to this hugely lucrative market, Bill Gates actually launched a Microsoft tablet a decade ago, well before the iPad and the string of competitors’ products were even conceptualised.

Back in 2002, Microsoft’s tablet was released to a relatively unsuccessful response and poor sales and they seemingly bowed out… until now that is.

So what are the features of the Microsoft Surface that we know of so far?
– There will be two versions of the new Microsoft tablet: Surface for Windows RT and Surface for  Windows 8 Pro
– Microsoft Surface dimensions and weight: 9.3mm thickness, 676g
– Microsoft Surface Pro dimensions and weight: 13.55mm thickness, 903g
– Touch Cover – a magnetic cover with inbuilt keyboard
– Tablet will have inbuilt stand for viewing
– 32 GB, 64 GB for Surface and 64 GB, 128 GB for Surface Pro
– 1920 x 1080p Full HD 10.6” ClearType screen

Top 5 iOS 6 Features

The news of iOS 6 was announced this week, and with around 200 new features added to the Apple mobile operating system used on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, we thought we’d run down 5 of the best new additions expected to give the biggest boost to the tech giant. Expect a lot of use of the letter “I”.

iOS 6 Maps
1. Maps
Perhaps the most interesting news about iOS 6 was that it will no longer use Google Maps, but instead will introduce Apple’s brand new Maps app. Features to distinguish this will include 3D mapping, turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic information and the integration of everyone’s favourite robot friend, Siri.

iOS 6 - Facebook

2. Facebook Integration
A big one that could make us all that much more addicted to updating our social profiles, with Facebook integrated into the core apps of the iPhone, uploading photos and posting your status using Siri will become the norm with iOS 6. Twitter integration was one of the big new features of iOS 5 and reportedly boosted sign-up to the social networking site by 25% in just a few months.

iOS 6 - FaceTime

3. FaceTime
Up until now, FaceTime video calling has only been possible on mobile Apple devices using a Wi-Fi connection. However, with iOS 6 FaceTime can also be used on cellular networks meaning you can make video calls on the go. Crucially, iPad does not have to miss out on this as your phone number can be used to make FaceTime calls on the tablet.

iOS 6 - Passbook
4. Passbook
This could be a game-changer for the way we all shop and travel as it transforms the iPhone into a mobile boarding pass, ticket and coupon. Neat features to expect will allow you to check in for flights and will even alert you after check-in if your gate changes.

iOS 6 - Photo
5. Shared Photo Streams
With sharing our online lives becoming more and more important daily, getting your photos sent to the right people in the right way will become much simpler in iOS 6. We will be able to select certain photos and share them with a group of people, for them to end up in the chosen few’s Photos app or iPhoto through iCloud.

iOS 6 is not going to available to the general public until autumn 2012, so in the meantime why not check our Proporta’s extensive range of superb iPhone 4S cases?
