Proporta Partners with the London College of Fashion to Offer a Glimpse of the Future…

Proporta, gadget and mobile accessory manufacturer, is today pleased to announce the results of its unique collaboration with the London College of Fashion (LCF).  First Year Foundation Degree (FdA) Cordwainers Accessory Design students from London College of Fashion have been working on the project since late last year, learning about the journey of a mobile device accessory from design stage to production and competing for the right to have their design produced by Proporta, and win £1,000 into the bargain.

There were 3 winners, and Proporta will be introducing all three designs into their main catalogue – so watch this space.

The first prize was awarded to Anne Ten Have for her innovative iPad accessories – the first a hooded waistcoat with specially designed case, and the second a stylish handbag that doubles as a stand for media viewing.

Anne Ten Have’s winning design – coming soon to Proporta’s main range.

Joint second prizes were awarded to Crystal Fischetti and Sungmin Han.  Looking at Crystal’s beautifully designed handbag it’s impossible to tell that it has a custom made pocket for an iPad hidden at the rear, and offers excellent protection to the device against scratches and scrapes.  It’s finished with a hand stitched corduroy front and is as pretty as it is useful.

Likewise, Sungmin’s elegant clutch purse style bag offers superb protection with it’s in-built iPad case, and also folds out to double as a viewing stand.  The leather exterior offers a touch of timeless class, but inside it’s as cutting edge as it is stylish.

All 3 winning designs show just how ingeniously the students managed to marry their knowledge of fashion with the needs of the technology user, and Jane Francis, Senior Lecturer at LCF says: “The collaboration between the FdA Cordwainers Accessory Design course and Proporta has been a fantastic opportunity for the students to work in a live context within the industry, where professional collaboration and recognition is very valuable. The cross-over between fashion design and technology innovation is an exciting growth area within accessories, making the project particularly relevant. Proporta has encouraged students throughout the project, offering valuable advice and direction within technology solutions, materials, product development and the manufacturing process as a whole.”

The 7 entries were judged in April by Lynnette Prigmore (Head of Product, Proporta), Guy Monson (Director, Proporta), Victoria Shortt (Little Red Rooster PR) and three technology journalists. One of the winners will be joining Proporta as a placement student in July, for a chance to learn even more about the industry.

The collaboration has been a huge success and produced some truly innovative work, and not just from the winners.  So Proporta is delighted to offer this little glimpse of the future – not just of their own product range but of some of the design talent that is emerging on to the scene.
as cutting edge as it is stylish.
