The Funkiest Projector You Will Ever See…

Sometimes a new gadget gives you the feeling that a little slice of science fiction has just dropped into your life. Not because you’ve managed to get your hands on the first teleporter or time machine, but just because there’s that sense of, well…cool. The Nokia Pulse Projector stirs up precisely that feeling, here at Proporta anyway, and makes us all severely tempted to get one.

This dinky little device is basically a multimedia player extraordinaire. Despite measuring only 9.5×4.5×4.5cm, it features a 1,000 lumens projector that will cast 15”-60” images up to 8 ft and a NXT speaker with Dolby sound processing. And the cleverest bit is that, through Bluetooth and Pulse technology, you can use your mobile as a remote control and streaming source. In other words, everything from browsing the internet, giving presentations, watching films or having group video conferences can be done with just your mobile and this tiny little gizmo – anywhere, any time. You can even project images on to a table surface, and the rotating head makes it easy to line up your picture.

All in all, a very funky little device which also happens to look rather stylish. Put some wheels on there and it could be R2D2…

Apple approve record number of apps

Wow. Last Friday Apple approved a record number of apps for the iPhone and iPod touch… 1394 in just one day to be precise (we bet they were itching to squeeze in another six). That’s about the same as the entire BlackBerry App World catalogue and more than double the number of games currently available on the PS3. Over 300 were games, meaning even more choice for consumers and feeding Apple’s emphasis on gaming for its mobile devices.

If only they weren’t mostly digital etch-a-sketches and whoopee cushions…

Apple 5G iPod nano review

Since the new iPod nano honoured us with its presence a little under a week ago, a few of the Proporta team have managed to bag themselves a couple and haven’t stopped toe tapping since. Here’s some of their initial thoughts and feedback…

There’s lots of positive improvements on the new iPod nano including a larger screen (now 2.2 inches) and FM radio, which impressively features pause and rewind. The video feature is another cool attribute and makes for easy video uploading (although it took us a while to work out that recording is best done in landscape view otherwise your finger either gets in the way of the lens, or you end up with an upside-down recording). We also think that this 5G nano version has a much better battery life than its predecessor, which would get eaten up in just a few hours.

The click wheel has been reduced slightly, which is good because it’s allowed the screen to become larger, but we imagine that someone with bigger fingers might not do so well with it. However, as with most things device related we reckon you just need to get used to it and come a few weeks, you’ll not even notice a difference.
The final aspect to be added is the speaker, which although may not provide the best sound quality at the moment (it’s very small and probably more for reviewing video recordings than starting dance offs at bus stops), it is an excellent feature and we think that as the future generations of iPod nano’s slowly appear, it’ll improve even further.

Not wishing to go all corporate on you, but Proporta has a really good line up of 5G iPod nano accessories that are already in stock as well as the USB TurboCharger if you’re after more battery life. Check out the brand new Twisted System Portable Speakers – available for pre-order (due in early October 2009).

Happy Chocolate Milkshake Day

Apparently it’s Chocolate Milkshake Day tomorrow. It always falls on September 12th. What a smashing day that sounds.

And here’s how to make a deliciously tasty Milkshake;

Simply combine a little milk with some chocolate ice cream, add some extra chocolate syrup, and mix it well in a blender. That’s the fixins for mixin up a big, tall glass of chocolate milkshake.

Have a great Chocolate Milkshake Day.
